Specialized Ateliers for Investigation and Exploration

Our ateliers are environments promoting knowledge and creativity, suggesting questions and generating evocations; they are beauty that produces knowledge and vice-versa, the places where “the hundred languages” of children are enacted.

Specialised Ateliers for Investigation and Exploration

The Light Atelier

Light and the phenomena of light are doors leading to discovery and knowledge of the world. Our ray of light atelier is a place of research and experimentation for children, educators and families, where light in its different forms are investigated, through explorations provoking wonder and curiosity, and which stimulate creativity and deeper knowledge in young children.

The science behind light and its concepts with different tools allow children to construct and form hypotheses and theories. It helps children create visual imagination, representations and creativity through the use of technology, tools and sustainable material.

Digital Landscape and Tinker Atelier

In this atelier, children are invited to use digital tools and technology, such as computers, video-projectors, webcams, digital microscopes, graphic tablets and different software to create a myriad of digital art, motion and unique compositions.

The concepts of design thinking and the importance of innovation through the focus on hands-on learning with real- world applications helps develop a variety of skill sets, including creativity and 21st-century skills in young children at Lily Valley.

The children will demonstrate their learning through technology through investigation and inquiry processes. The spaces, and the available materials, encourage the children’s discovery by the border areas between optics and art, between marks and the 3-dimensional, between real and immaterial constructions, logic and imagination, between sound, image, dance, narrative and scenography. The atelier allows children to represent their ideas and multi disciplinary explorations via visual representations and compositions through technological mediums.

Art Atelier ~ The Languages of Art

Our Art Atelier is a specialist arts room designed to offer children the opportunity to experiment and use their creative imagination through extensive art experiences with our art atelierista. In the atelier, children are offered various pallets of materials to use as symbols of visual representation. This gives children the opportunity to express themselves using many different art forms. This interaction or dialogue with materials such as paint, clay and wire offers children additional languages through which they can express themselves.

This dedicated art space allows children and educators to collaborate with community artists, fellow educators in the school to discuss about children’s graphical representations and helping them extend these ideas into long term projects as vehicles for learning.

The Languages of Food Kitchen Atelier

Our Kitchen Food Atelier is not just a place fo food preparation, they are thought of as “a place of chemistry”, where children explore the origins of food, techniques and science of food preparation as well as interact with our school chef through stories and workshops. This helps children to understand healthy living, cultivating an education and support of sustainable farming and food production. The cultural idea of food is created through cooking together with our school community.

Indoor Edible Garden

Indoor Edible Garden

Come and Visit our Indoor Edible Garden where the children are invited to take part in seasonal gardening projects with their peers, educators and families. Gardening can heighten children’s senses as they feel the dirt, flowers, fruit, leaves and seeds, see the vibrant colours and sizes of plants, hear the sound of leaves rustling, fruits and vegetables being picked and smell the flowers, fruits and herbs fresh.

They also develop a sense of responsibility towards growing their own foods for healthy eating and development. Wellness and gardening workshops could be held here with the collaboration of community biologists, scientists as well as gardeners.
